Moving an Old Contact Database to MailChimp or ConstantContacts?

Uploading your contacts from your computer or company database can be problematic. Depending on how long you have been adding contacts to your database there is a good chance a high percentage of your emails are no long valid. This will cause a high bounce rate and could get your suspended from the bulk email giants.

It’s a good idea to have a 3rd party clean your list before uploading it for use. The company I choose, with great reviews, was Voilanorbert.com Their pricing was very reasonable and found that 35% of my list had invalid email addresses 39% were risky and only 25% were clean, usable email addresses. Mind you, this list went back over 15 years. For checking ~1400 email addresses the cost was $4. Very reasonable. I could have paid an additional $50 and they would have filled in my list with missing names, titles, companies, addresses & phone number.

Create and Use HTML Template in Outlook

Create New Message

Click New Message Button
Format Text > as HTML
Create your message using fonts & inserting graphics

File > Save as > type > Outlook Template

Use Created Template

Click New Item
More Items > Choose Form > Look in Use Template in File System
Choose .oft that you created above

Add Contact Form to WordPress

In Plugins Search for New – Contact Form
Choose Contact Form 7 by Tokayuki
Install > Activate > Settings
Click on Contact Form 1
Update Tabs

Mail

Check the TO field and make sure the auto-fill correctly filled the email that you wish to receive these submissions.

Also check the FROM – if it entered an email that does not exist, go to the CPanel control panel and under “mail” either add that email (or one you prefer) OR under “mail” choose forwards and create a forward to one of existing email accounts if you don’t to have a new account to check

Place on website

Look towards the top of the page and copy the shortcut code.
Click “save”
Then goto your contact page & add paste this code in your page using the “html” view

One Computer Can’t See The Other

Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding

Fix 1

Rt click on windows –> Control Panel –> Network & Internet –> Network & Sharing Center –> click connection

Internet –> Properties

Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) –> Properties
– Choose Obtain an IP address automatically
– Choose Obtain DNS server address automatically
OK
Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) –> Properties
– Choose Obtain an IP address automatically
– Choose Obtain DNS server address automatically
OK

Fix 2

Rt click on windows –> command –> Run as Administrator
Enter
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /renew
Restart your computer

OR

netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /flushdns
net stop dnscache
net start dnscache

BACK UP FILES

  1. Login to your cPanel
  2. Find the root directory of you website (normally public_html)
  3. Double click on public_html to open the folder
  4. Click on the first file/fold in the directory – hold your shift key – click on the last file/folder in that directory – all should be highlighted
  5. Right mouse click on any of the highlighted files and a menu should appear
  6. Choose Compress
  7. For windows, I choose “Zip Archive”
  8. Click Compress Files
  9. It will name the zip after the first file/fold in the directory – my files was cgi-bin.zip
  10. Rename to whatever is relevant i.e. domainname-backup-date.zip
  11. Right mouse click on file & download your computer
  12. Next find your database name by looking in your wp-config file (double-click will download the file) open with note-pad and look for DB_NAME

BACK UP DATABASE

  1. Go back to cPanel
  2. Under Databases choose phpMyAdmin
  3. On the left menu find the database that is used by your WordPress Site (DB_Name above)
  4. Click once on the name all tables should now show on the left and be highlighted
  5. Click Export from the top menu
  6. Quick – display only the minimal options
  7. SQL format
  8. Click GO

MOVE TO SECURE LOCATION

  1. All files that we download should show on the bottom bar of your browser (if they are not there, look in your download fold on your machine)
  2. Right click on one and choose open in folder
  3. Highlight and move these files to a location you will remember. It is always a good idea to keep several copies in different locations – on your hard drive, on an external hard drive that is not normally connected to your computer, and on the cloud as well

Then to move to a new domain name:

Upload the zip and extract
Create a new database, user name and assign user to database
Import database

After you import your database, go to the wp_options table and select Edit. You need to change the location of your website in this table. 

  1. Locate the words ‘siteurl’ and ‘home’. 
  2. For siteurl, under option_value, replace the old domain name with the new one. Press enter to save. 
  3. Next for home, repeat the same step. Replace the domain name with the new one and hit enter.
  1. Go to cPanel public_html > wp-config.php. Right-click and edit this file. If you’re using FTP, you need to download the file, and open it in any text editor to make the changes.
  2. Find the following lines:
